Gates of Olympus bonuses: free spins and multipliers

Everything people play Gates of Olympus for is tucked into two mechanics: multipliers and free spins. Two further options, Ante Bet and the bonus buy, simply change the price you pay for access to them.

Multipliers

From time to time an orb carrying a number from 2× to 500× lands on the grid along with the symbols. It stays put while the tumbles run, and when they finish the values of all the orbs are added up. The whole win for the spin is multiplied by that sum. Say the tumbles brought 6,000 soums and orbs of 3× and 8× are on the grid: the total comes to 66,000. If the spin had no win, the orbs are wasted however large the number on them. Big values are rare, and the bulk of the orbs fall between 2× and 10×.

Free spins

The round begins when four or more Scatters are on the grid at once. You get 15 spins for which no bet is deducted. If three more Scatters land during the round, five spins are added, and that can happen repeatedly.

The value of the round lies in the accumulating multiplier. In the base game orbs affect only their own spin, whereas here every orb from a winning spin is added to a running total and stays there to the end. The earlier in the round the total starts to climb, the more each remaining spin is worth. The opposite happens too: orbs land on empty spins, the total does not grow, and all fifteen spins return fewer than twenty bets. That outcome is far more common than a big one.

Ante Bet

This switch raises the cost of a spin by a quarter: at a 2,000-soum bet you pay 2,500. In return more Scatter symbols are placed on the reels and free spins land about twice as often. Payouts are still calculated from the original 2,000. In effect you are paying extra to reach the bonus more often, and the wins themselves do not get any bigger. While Ante Bet is on, the bonus buy button is unavailable.

Bonus buy

Instead of waiting for the free spins round you can buy it for 100 bets. At a 2,000-soum bet that is 200,000 for one click. A bought round is no better than one that landed naturally, and nothing guarantees a return: it may pay 300 bets or 15. Buying speeds the game up many times over, and the spending with it, which is why the feature is banned in some countries and switched off by some operators of their own accord.

Casino bonuses work differently

Do not confuse in-game free spins with the ones operators hand out in promotions. Promotional bonuses almost always carry a wagering requirement: the amount received has to be played through a set number of times before you are allowed to withdraw it. Add an expiry date and a cap on winnings, and the benefit can turn out far more modest than the banner suggests. Read the promotion rules in full and only take bonuses from operators with a NAPP licence.
